Does anyone know of any good writeups on the net about how to repair your own plastics? My FJ came with a chin fairing that is in crappy shape, but I think i could probably fix it up and paint it and make it workable. Just wanted to get some pointers first from some people who have done this kind of work.

I recently painted the plastic and repaired a crack in the upper fairing. I used JB Weld for the crack and also to fill in some nasty scratches . It sanded down very nicely and you can not tell there was damage to that spot.

Search the General Maintenance catagory for the word paint, there are a couple of nice threads with very detailed info about using spray paint.

I've repaired some cracks on my FJ with clear epoxy and it seems to be hanging in fine so far.

I am seriously considering trying some Testors model glue next time. It is the same type of plastic as used in model kits and that glue melts and 'welds' it together stronger than the surrounding plastic if applied right.

But I want to try a small test piece first to confirm it works before going whole hog.

Told ya that stuff was brittle, eh.

My front fender is a wonder of epoxy, determination and crazy donkey luck.... but one day it is going to self-destruct like a pop-star's career.
