Has anyone adapted a Car gps to fit on your bike? I have a Magellan Roadmate 760 http://www.thegpsstore.com/Detail-Magel ... system.asp

and I was thinking of mounting it somehow behind the windscreen on my FJ.

Has anyone doesnt something siimiliar? Pics?

I haven't done it yet but it's something I'm thinking about doing. I don't have a GPS now so I am looking at some different units from Garmin and TomTom. There are a number of different options out there for mounting the Garmin branded units to your bike.

wow, that was very helpful.

thanks!

I did a search and was unable to find any info specific to custom mounts, or really anything other then info about Garmin GPS units. That was why I posted this thread :)

the small handheld ones, would you be able to use Velcro or soemthing, I would think if its out of the wind, and you use industrial it might work.

yea thats the thing, I need a way to mount my Megellan unit to the bike. Its really a great unit as it has maps for the entire country built in, talks to you, maps routes, maps alternate routes if you hit traffic, etc etc. I use it all the time in my Cherokee, just type in the address and go.

I'd love to mount it to my fj for an upcoming trip to north carolina, although I am worried about it being exposed to the elements and whatnot. It wasnt cheap.

Yup - a StreetPilot 7270. I adapted a Magellan mount to hold it to my bike.

Check out CycoActive or RAM Mount for possible mounts for that device on your particular bike.

If the GPS has a speaker on it it's not going to be waterproof FYI. I'm looking at the Tomtom Rider or the Lowrance iWay500c (Which also has 10gb of HD space for music... )

I'll let you know what i decide :)

and yea, i wouldnt expect this to be waterproof whatsoever. I guess i'd put a bag or something over it were i to need it in the rain.
