...had to travel to NYC a couple of times this week and on the overhead electronic traffic billboards the following message is being displayed

"Improve motorcycle safety, be alert and share the road"

...great public service message, now the question is what proportion of cagers read and then act on this?...yeah, I know it is NYC....

THis garbage doesn't work since alot of new yorkers are selfish. I remember last week some prick warned me to remember that I'm on a bike after he swerved into me.

Well, I'd agree that alot of people are d*cks here in NY...but at the same time I've been getting some courtesy and even a few waves from cagers. Maybe it's cuz I haven't been riding the NYC streets long enough

But I've had more than one cager admiring the bike enough to comment while stopped at a light.

I think in NY we have the best of the best...unfortunately, we also get the worst of the worst to balance out the equation. I'd be willing to bet almost anything that the majority of mulitiple vehicle collisions including a MC here involve a cabbie.

Thats why you need to learn "Kick the Cabby"... I used to ride my Scarabeo into work and up until I got over the bridge it was great.. Once I was in midtown it was like a video game... Kick swerve kick.... Can't do it so much on a motorcycle but it was a good way to take out my agression at those idiots for swerving into me.

Wouldn't that just be the definition of irony?

We have a similar scheme over here - the "Think Bike" scheme. There have been posters put up by the roads, and even Ads on the TV. The way I see it, if it saves the life of ONE biker, it was worth it.

I am in the same camp...if motorcycle safety is being communicated to a broad audience it is better than no message at all.

Trust me, New York drivers are a gift from Heaven(compared to other places at least). I lived there all of my 24yrs up until a few months ago when I moved to Miami. The drivers here suck!!!!!!

80% don't speak english or probably even have a license. All driving their new sports cars. Ya kno, the big 9 passenger SUV that only has one man or woman in it on a cell phone. They love to "try" to cut me off. I don't let it happen but of course I'm in a car now. It's different on a bike. Think I need to get a AR-15 mounted on my bike when I get it (joke).
