I've got an '84 Nighthawk 750s that I have to keep throwing a battery charger on every couple of weeks. Somewhere in the back of my mind I think I remember reading something about older Hondas having trouble with the charging system, although the '85 Magna I used to ride never did this to me.
Do I need a new battery or some other repairs on the bike to get this one to charge correctly? Or is this just a state of affairs that I will need to live with?

You probably have a charging system issue and 90 percent of the time it is the regulator/rectifier. If you do not have the means to check it out yourself, take it to a dealer.
