How often do you ride away not realizing that your sidestand is still down?

Maybe once a week.

How many time have you pulled out of the parking lot and made that first left turn only to hear a SCRAPE, followed by the sidestand swinging up into its rightfull place while you hide your face from everyone who saw?

Once on my first bike.

Never on my latest bike...If the kickstand is down and you put the bike in gear, the engine shuts off.

Thats happened once or twice though...

Actually, if I put my bike in gear with the stand down, the engine shuts off.

If I try to start the bike with the stand down/in gear (I pretty much ALWAYS park/stop my bike in first gear, with the clutch engaged), it WILL NOT start...

By now, I recognize the 'not starting' sound if I try it, usually at a gas station after a fill up.

Never. Supposedly once I try to engage the clutch and go, the bike will die if the stand is down. Never had to test it though. It will start up in neutral with the stand down though.

My bike is old, and doesnt have that "shuts off when side stand is down" option. I do it once and a while, It makes me shudder each time.
