How many time have you pulled out of the parking lot and made that first left turn only to hear a SCRAPE, followed by the sidestand swinging up into its rightfull place while you hide your face from everyone who saw?
my bike won't allow it, but since i normally have to back up a bit out of the garage or whatever, even if it's down i find out real soon when i try to push it and i smack my foot hehe

Actually, if I put my bike in gear with the stand down, the engine shuts off.
If I try to start the bike with the stand down/in gear (I pretty much ALWAYS park/stop my bike in first gear, with the clutch engaged), it WILL NOT start...
By now, I recognize the 'not starting' sound if I try it, usually at a gas station after a fill up.

Never. Supposedly once I try to engage the clutch and go, the bike will die if the stand is down. Never had to test it though. It will start up in neutral with the stand down though.
