The Triumph Scrambler 900.

It's not high-tech, super fast, or particularly capable off road... it's just plain cool.
It's retro but not in the dopey Harley "Heck's Angel" way - doesn't appeal to the same crowd (not that there aren't SOME perfectly reasonable HD riders).

I want one.

I like the pipes too. I like the bike cuz it looks like an old cafe racer.

If you like the old cafe racer look check out the Triumph Thruxton.
I would be the old, slow guy. Just let me know where you are going and I'll try to get there before you leave.

I've been lucky enough to sit on the thruxton and the scrambler. They are both very cool. Would have a tough time trying to pick just 1.

I like the looks too but it needs a modern fuel-injected engine, etc. A modern version of a 'classic' should not be old-tech or low-tech. For example, the New-Beetle used a modern engine, modern suspension, and did not use impractical styling clues such as the original's flat windshield.

It has a modern carbureted engine. I think you won't have long to wait for EFI Bonnevilles, 2006 is probably the last year ever for carbureted Triumphs due to EU emissions regulations.

I agree with you to an extent, but cars are different from Bikes for a few reasons - Biggest is Emissions (Stricter for cars) they had to go w/ EFI. Bikes are following as jstark47 mentioned.

Another big reason for carbs is the target audience. The 40+ crowd is a large segment of the motorcycling community. Alot of these guys want a bike that is near the bikes they grew up with - I think carbs are part of that experience that they are trying to recreate.

sat on a scrambler this past weekend, pretty cool bikes, the only thing I do not like a bout them is where the exhaust ends up. My leg was touching the exhaust. Me thinks that would get real uncomfortable real fast. There were shield but pipes still throw a lot of heat regardless.

Back in the days of the original Scramblers (like the Honda 305), I remember hating to ride on the back because of the pipes. I was always burning my leg on that heat shield that's supposed to keep you from burning your leg :laughing:
