Kawasaki Contours?

#1 Unread post by MotoF150 »

Anybody here own a Kawasaki Contours? I was looking at one to maybe be my next bike, price of $7995, I was reading some issues about vibration problems about it. What I want in a bike is to be comfortable and fast, riding with Harleys, Gold Wings and VTX1800 need a bike to keep up and capiable of long non-stop trips. I can get the Honda VTX1800 for the same price but I don't want that bike cause everybody else owns one.

My personal opinion is that they completely suck. I've ridden one, about 12 years ago and it felt like an undrpowered, poor handling, vibrating antique at that time. There will always be someone who loves them, but IMO they are garbage.....

Thank You Mr High_Side,,, Your opnion is very valuable to me. I want a japanese bike thats fast, light, easy to handle and comfortable on long trips, Suzuki V Strom 1000 or the Honda ST1300, ruled out bikes are the Yamaha FZ1, and the Suzuki 650 V Strom, and the Honda 919, leaning to the Honda VTX1800 but the only thing I don't like its way too heavy, love the Mean Streak, bike fits me perfect, but worried about the low engine power, looking at the Suzuki S83, don't like the small gas tank and oil cooled engine and bias ply tires, only have $5000 to spend plus the trade in of my 05 Suzuk M50, so I can only afford a bike under $8000, or should I just say what the heck!, get a loan and get the Gold Wing, or wait till next year and be the first one to buy the Honda DN-01 ?

I'm not quite sure what you are going for: cruiser or a sport-touring bike? Personally I couldn't do a cruiser for distance touring but there are lots of people who can. Both the ST1300 and V-Strom 1000 have lots of power to keep up with the big dogs but are not light-weight by any means. As DivideOverflow stated the Sprint ST (not Japanese but quality just the same), or the VFR (expensive valve adjustments but only every 25K), or the FJR1300 (nice powerfull decent handling bike with shaft drive) would be good choices. The V-Strom 650 is personally what I am looking at adding to the stable, as it is surprisingly powerful and far lighter than the big V-Strom. Given your history with Suzuki I don't think this is an option

I own a Concours. Have put on 43,000 miles in the last 3 years. It may not be the fastest sport tourer, (any more) but turning 12 second 1/4 mile times is not slow in my book, especially with luggage. It has been 100% reliable. Yes, there is some vibration, but once I became used to it, it does not bother me. I can go 250 miles w/o reserve, it has excellent luggage, probably the BEST weather protection on 2 wheels, and the bike has been made for 20 years and lets just say the "bugs" have been pretty much eliminated. It does require frequent valve adjustment, but it is very easy to do. (No shims) The endurance of this 10,000 RPM engine is incredible with many over 200,000 miles and at least 1 well over 300,000.

Buy what rings your chimes, but base it on facts, or many opinions, not just a few.

I can't read a single one of your posts with out getting pissed off. First of all, don't blame your lack of education on public schools, or who is president, because either way, you can still learn. Second, quit being so damn arrogant. Third, does your "wife" know what you think about using woman because you have bad credit?
