What is the best type of tire pressure gauge?

digital? the "clock-face" with the needle? the "pop-out" kind?

i know none of those are the correct names but i need to get a tire gauge to start checking my tires.

what do you all use?

Anything but the stick gauges. I use a digital. Most of the garages I've worked in use dial type (cuz they are durable and usually live on the end of a compressor hose. Just make sure that when you buy a gauge, it will fit on the stud (Between the stud and the hub) - it sux having a brand new gauge and ... whoops doesn't fit !

The biggest problem with "stick" gauges is that they can get "crud" in them causing the stick to not move freely. If you have one or get one, just make sure to check that it will move in and out manually before testing the air pressure with it.

I think a digital is fine but, you'll need to replace batteries or gauges eventually.

The dial type is probably the most reliable. Whichever you get, make sure it fits properly and that you can get it all the way onto the stem for a tight seal.

**edit: Also make sure that the gauge fits properly with the psi range. They make small psi gauges for ATV's/Lawn Mowers/etc that require less than 10psi in their tires.**
