So a friend of mine is a die hard no gear girl. While walking to class today I told her about the stuff I want and when I mentioned I was buying pants she laughed at me. This in itself is fine cause I tease her all the time but the thing is I want to show her why gear is a valuable investment so hopefully she'll get some, some day. Anyway so this is my project.

What I need help with is motorcycle related accident pictures with gear, and without. I wanna try and show her some evidence thats its good to have. I'm gonna try and orginize a sort of this accident picture show. Show the damage with gear, and without gear.

Oh and she's gone down before with nothing but a helmet on. Doing 60 she lowsided and walked away with just a scratch. I think thats part of why she has that "bah who needs gear" attitude.

Also once I'm done with it I think it would be a pretty good thing to post in the New Bikers forum. They say a picture is worth a thousand words right?

if someone can find that pic of the girl who was road rashed from head to toe on one side of her body (she got new watermellons out of the deal apperently) that was pretty convincing, it was posted here somewhere.

Does this girl have a dad already? If so, she might not be too thrilled by you playing one for her. Respect her choice.

Yup... I agree. My response to people who don't wear gear is simply, "wow... you're far more daring than I". Other than that, I don't care if they wear gear or not. It's their decision. I've had road rash and it sucks, ergo I wear gear.

she does and its fine that she chooses not to wear gear, but if shes gonna make fun of me for having it I might as well show her why I do.

Here's the text that goes with the pics above:

"Here's the jist of it: I was a passenger on my friend Sean's GXSR 750, we were going WAY fast on highway 550 (that means about 120mph), and my helmet visor flipped open, making me instantly un-aerodynamic, and ripping me off the back of the bike. I tumbled 522 feet down the highway and slid to a stop across the yellow lines at mile marker 8. The guy riding behind us said I looked like a bag of trash rollin' down the highway, and he had to swerve to avoid hitting me. I ended up on my stomach, with my right arm pinned underneath me and my left arm extended out onto the road. My clothes were shredded, my helmet was ****ed, and my shoes were gone... they had all been claimed by the cement. My injuries included, but were not limited to, 50 percent body coverage of third degree "pavement" burns , which we lovingly call "road rash." To get an idea of what this means, some of my bones, tendons, and even internal organs were exposed in several places, and chunks of muscle and skin were completly missing. I lost half of my left breast (which I still am sad about). I also dislocated my right big toe and severed all the tendons in my left pinky finger. However, I didn't break any bones whatsoever. This is probably because I let myself go limp, as I just wanted to die while I tumbled on the cement. The ambulance arrived 45 minutes later because we were out in the middle of nowhere (Indian Reservation!). Once the Paramedics realized the extent of my injuries, they called the helicopter out and flew me to UNMH, where I stayed until just yesterday. So, after 8 surguries and 2 long months in the hospital, I am happy to report that I am home and alright. But, I did have to learn to walk again, and my scars will never go away, and many scars I do have. As of now, I look pretty gross under my clothes, but my pretty face survived.

Of course, I do not regret getting on the bike because you never know when something like that could happen. It was a Sunday drive, and I was sober when I chose to ride. Nothing could have changed what happened or even warned me about the problem with my helmet. I only hope that poor Sean has stopped blaming himself and that he comes with me to Vegas for my birthday. It's amazing what you can learn about a person if you simply fall off their motorcycle. "

Yeah, in the eternal battle between the road and skin, my money is on the harder substance...

As for "playing dad" I only half agree. Present the info you can but don't be overbearing. If she still isn't moved than don't keep pushing as eventually you'll annoy her, but give her any info you have, see how she reacts, and then back off.

She could be offended or she could say "wow, you actually care about my safety..."

ouch! will this ever heal?

I scraped my knee when I first took the MSF course back in august, and there is still a very faint mark there, practically invisible now. But for a long time it was a nice reminder for me to wear gear. The psychological "mark" obviously still remains
