So in a few weeks I'll be making my decision between the Vulcan 1500 & VTX 1300 - both great bikes. Cash deal, no BS. I went to the local Suzuki/Yamaha dealer yesterday - Alberta Cycle, to buy a new helmet.

I saw a nice bike that hadn't been there before, so I decided to sit on it and see how it felt. As I'm admiring it - a salesman stomps up to me and accosts me like I had walked in buck naked and draped my boys on the seat of the bike. "Is there anything I can help you with?" he says, as if I could never afford such a fine piece of equipment. When I said I didn't, he stomped back to his cubicle.

I get off the bike and walk around it. He starts walking in my direction, so I ask him a question, only to be brushed off with a curt answer while he makes a beeline for the vending machine - breezing past me fixated on the candy bar being carefully guarded behind a plexiglass fortress.

Needless to say I won't darken the door of Alberta Cycle ever again. What a joke!

If you go with the VTX, believe me, you won't be disappointed.

Gee, you experience sounds just like mine when I went to Carter Honda in Coquitlam. As soon as the salesguy realized my friend and I were looking for a bike for me, he turned around and walked away....and that was right in mid question.

I tried one other time to look for an accessory in there and was met with the same "I can't be bothered" attitude.
So, I will not darken Carter Honda's doors again.


Well, except maybe to ride by and show them how much money I did not spend in their store.

Send a note to the sales manager about your experience. It may be swimming against the tide, but it MAY make a difference.

Or better yet. Show up on your new ride, once you've got it, and SHOW them you were ready to buy but took your $$ elsewhere because of the dumba$$ salesboob.

THAT will make an impression.

the dealer i bought my bike from is considerably farther away from my home than the dealer i was goign to go with but after the hard-upsell tactics then the 2nd time i went no one would help me, i decided i'd rather find a dealer somewhere else and i will never shop there again. i like the people who sold me my bike. they didnt pressure me to buy today, nor did they try to upsell me. i wish they had a better "pro shop" but i like the people, and its worht the drive to me. since i ahve heard lots of bad things about the other dealer and im glad i did not buy from them.

maybe i did only purchase a $3000 bike, but i'd hate to think about how much money that other dealer will loose over the course of my lifetime. (im only 20 right now, how many different bikes do you think i'll buy before im too old to ride anymore?)

i hope you find a better dealer so you can get a new bike.

Agreed...GREAT idea to show up on a brand new bike from the competitor's showroom floor! That oughta send a little me$$age!

Did you try Argyll yet? They seemed way nicer there when I was looking around. But then again I've heard both goods and bads from various people about both. Maybe you just got the p*iss & cornflake eating sales guy of the day. That AB Cycle place is family owned so I'd complain to the owners.

I've had no problems at the dealer I bought my bike from (Hahm Motorsports) or from the dealer across the street from my office(Mission Motorsports). Mission has really picked up the custy service in the past few months and it shows too.

Hmmm, I've bought 1 motorcycle, saddlebags, gloves, 3 helmets, multiple helmet visors and 1 jacket from Alberta Cycle, they've always treated me well.

Most recently I was in there buying my Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket. I tried a bunch on, had 3 different people ask me if I needed help with anything. When I said no, they politely left me alone to fiddle with jackets.

I took a couple over to the bikes to fit test them in actual ride conditions, sat on a SV1000 and squirmed around with the jacket on, looking over my shoulders, leaning down, sitting up, fiddling about everything. I had one guy come over and say, "do you nee... just checking to see if it fits?"

"Yes, thanks." And he left me alone.

I'll continue to shop there for gear as they carry a wide selection, but I'm to happy with my Honda to buy another bike there. Maybe you got a bad salesman. But I've found most of them there are really good.
