Sissy bar setup for '06 Sportster question

I recently sold my old bike and bought an '06 Sportster 883. I bought an entire sissy bar/backrest/side brackets setup for the bike and I'm getting ready to install it. This may be a silly questiom but it appears as though I have to remove the reflectors on both sides, what is the best way to do this without scratching the paint? Aren't they just stickied on? Also doesn't the law require that I have reflectors on both sides of the bike?
