Just purchased a used 2002 GL 1800 and it needs tires.. I get a lot of different story's.. Any good ideas from riders that have tried different tires??? I am sure this subject has been beat to death..

I like Metzlers, but Dunlop developed the Elite III, specifically for the newer wings

Avon also has great tires developed for the bigger tourers...





The numbers on the tires are not avon numbers, they are part numbers from the catalog I took the pic from...

I have Bridgestone Spitfires on my bike, they still have air in them....

Its my personal experiences with tires and I like Pirelli Tires the best. I have owned bikes for a long time and bought all different brands, to me the worst tires are Bridgestone, Dunlop, IRC and Maxis. The only tires I never used are the Micheln, and Metzeler, mainly cause they are expensive. That is just my personal opnion on tires.

Personally for tires. I have gone through two sets of Bridgestones. Two sets of Metzlers. Currently on my first set of Dunlop EIII's. Jury is still out on the Dunnies. However, the Metzlers have been my fav so far.

Thank you for those links. My Dad has a GL1800 (silver '05) and is looking for new tires right now. I'll pass that info along to him. Right now his 'wing is his primary transportation, as he took his Galant apart when I got back from Iraq to do the timing belt and a few other things - that was in January, and it's still in pieces in the garage. Guess that happens when you'd rather ride than drive. No sense in fixing the car when the bike works

A lot of his riding is commuting, and short rides to bike meets with my Mom. Though he does like to stretch out and ride across Texas. From your experience, which tire would you recommend for that kind of split?

The Metzler ME880's, has been my favorite so far. Although as they wear out they do become noiser and noiser. Something some people can not tolerate. I average out about 19,000+ miles on the Metzlers. Only reason I switched to the Dunlops was a little bit of peer presure and a good price on them.
