Looking at bikes

Ok I have been looking at cycle trader and my local newspapers. it seems like every bike available is just about what a brand new bike costs. I found a ducati that is $500 under brand new and its 3 yrs old and has no extras. Then I saw a Honda Shadow with no extras that was only $300 less than brand new and it was 4 years old. It looks to me like bikes almost dont lose any value to them as they get used and abused. Any thoughts or am I just looking in all the wrong places cause the way I see it if its only $500 less than brand new I would rather go brand new.

While entry level bikes don't depreciate as fast as more exotic/advanced ones it feels like the guys you've just highlighted are 'reaching' and hoping that someone who dosn't mind paying over the odds will turn up.
Keep looking, something good and reasonably priced will turn up.

at some point.... but it does appear they hold their value pretty well..Im running into the same problem..... if your going to pay that sort of cost, buck up and pay the extra 500 and get a new one.

If it's in good condition, and has low miles, than just try to talk it down. Otherwise, buy new.

Those people are dreaming. Try looking elsewhere. I found a bike one yr old with very low milege for $2000 below cost of a new one. (Also didn't hurt that I had cash and the seller was moving out of state)
You just have to be patient for opportunities like that. If you look hard & often enough they will come up.

Nobody is going to buy ur used bike if its only $300 to $500 off the price as a new bike, most people have no problem paying extra for a new bike. Its funny to me when I read the bikes for sale in the classified section of my newspaper many people want more for their used bike than what you can buy a new one for, in today there is a 03 Honda Rebel with 600 miles for $3500, and a 05 Yamaha 650 V Star for $5900, a brand new 06 Honda Rebel is $2995 and a new 06 Yamaha 650 Custom is $5199, Classic is $5399.

People will do whatever they can to trty and recover their money. They don't understand that vehicles are depreciating items. So if they got screwed on their financing or were dumb enough to pay a dealer fee, they try to pass that cost on when they sell it so not to "take a hit".
Most frequently, these people aren't worth dealing with since they will be stubborn and feel like they deserve the amount they ask for. However, sometimes you can talk them down to a reasonable price as long as they don't have any other offers.

Sorry in that list there was a '03 Honda with only 600miles.
It's only done 200 miles a year? How does that happen? I did that in my second day when I bought the CG, and then clocked over 600 in the following week.
How does that happen? Dos not compute....

Its also still early in the season. If you compare those prices now, till say.....october. Should be a big difference.

Just because they are listed that high does not mean they'll sell that high.
