Honda vlx question???

I just recently got my first bike to learn to ride on. A 2001 Honda shadow vlx600. Its not in bad condition but has mostly been neglected by the previous owner. The rear tire has Tire rot and a little bit of rust but other than that it seems to be in good condition. I did find that there is practically no coolant and I am having trouble trying to locate the opening to refill it. If someone can help me out with the coolant opening location I would appreciate it greatly! I am also wondering if that would damage the engine in anyway.

I believe on this model you have to take the gas tank off to get to the radiator fill. Or check by the steering head under the black plastic covers, but I think the gas tank has to be removed for those as well to avoid scratching anything.
I can't remember if the overflow bottle is at the bottom front or rear. Shouldn't be too hard to find.
And yes, low coolant is never a good idea.
How did you realize it was low on coolant??
Get that rear tire replaced. Dry-rot is a good way to have a blow-out!

To get the tank off, remove the seat. I think there are two 5mm allen screws on the sides of the seat, they are kinda hidden. A 12mm bolt on the rear of the tank. I don't think you have to remove the screw at the front of the tank, that is for the covers mentioned above. Turn the petcock off and remove the fuel hose, this can be a pain since it's in the middle of the tank above the rear cylinder. There may be a small vent hose on the right rear of the tank. The radiator fill cap should be sitting near the front middle of the frame.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice i'll get on to it. I just picked it up used and had a friend drop it off at my place where I gave the a good look over and noticed the low coolant. I've been looking all over but just couldn't find it. Thanks once again! :)
