FINALLY bought a bike!
After a 6 month long process of continual letdowns I finally got a bike!
My girlfriend graduated from college yesterday and went back to St. Louis today, so I suppose that I really needed something to take up some extra time. So mostly on whim I called up a guy who was asking too much for his bike and went and checked it out. Talked him down $700 and got riding pants and a helmet (not that I wanted the helmet, but the pants I'll keep), a brand new chain (apparently a nice one, it's still new in the box), and a new rear tire. It needs a few touch ups but all in all it's in good shape. My friend works at a bike shop and we left it at his place.
So, I am finally the proud owner of a blue 2000 Kawasaki Ninja EX500 D7 with 6100 miles on it! I'll be a few days before it's ready to ride but that's A.O.K. with meh! I finally got a bike, I can stop riding/coveting other people's!
I'll post pics when I get them!

Congratulations!
Awesome!

Lenny: Hey George I want a dog.
George: Shut up Lenny, you're too stupid for a dog.
Lenny: At least I'm not an @ssoff.

It's always so weird to me when I hear about 6 year old bikes with 6000 miles.
Personally, I feel like I do NOT ride much at all. But I put about 6000 miles on my bikes in 6 months, not 6 years. Strange.
[b]Are you a beginner rider?
Have a lot of questions about motorcycling?
Not sure what bike to start with?

The other bike I was looking at was a 15 year old bike with 2800 miles on it. How'd you feel about that?Dragonhawk wrote:Congratulations.kabob983 wrote:So, I am finally the proud owner of a blue 2000 Kawasaki Ninja EX500 D7 with 6100 miles on it!

I thought you already had a bike... the red one.... like a GS500E or a bandit or something...
Oh well, anyway, post some pics.

I flat don't understand the mileage people put on their motorcycles.
I've owned it my ninja for 20 days now.. it has 805 miles... the last 300 miles went on since Friday (I finished the 500 mile service Thursday night). It'll be well over 1000 before next weekend.
When I was shopping I saw a bunch of bikes ('02, '03, '00, etc) that had less than 800 miles.

Ride it like you think owning it matters.

Because people buy them, and let them sit in the garage for weeks at a time, only taking them out to cruise up to the bar or whatever, then they sit in the garage for another couple of weeks until the owner decides it's time to take the bike out again. I think that's what differentiates "real" bikers from "posers" (I put those terms in quotes, because there's nothing wrong with either one). A "real" biker wants to take the bike out any chance he gets, putting thousands of miles on it a year (more than he puts on his car). A "poser" biker buys a new shiney bike because it looks cool, and he wants to ride it every once in a while when the weather is nice. Like I said, there's really nothing wrong with the "poser" biker, he just doesn't care about riding quite as much as the "real" biker.
