Got my new license today. I am now a class DM. Guess whos going for a nice little ride tonight.

On a side note only five more months before I replace it again haha.

DM is a full motorcycle licence. the

D = drive a car

M = drive a motorcycle

I have a CM.

The C means I can drive a car or truck.

M means motorcycle of course.



You can get an A or a B as well (each entitling you to the class below it plus the new vehicles that that class gives you the right to drive).

Don't other states do that? Or is Texas just weird?

MA does it as well my dad has a class A license so his reads AM

Prolly depends on where you live... Ontario Canada, I have a GM2 class liscence.

G= car or truck (I think it entitles me to drive those small cube vans too, it has something to do with the load weight per axle)
M2= Graduated liscencing (blech) I can operate a motorcycle, any time of day or night with passenger but must maintain a 0.0% blood alcohol content.

So when you get your M3 you'll be able to drive with a 0.08% BAC? And an M4 is good for 0.16%? Or what?

And what does 'D' stand for? Here we have A (big), B (medium), C (little), M1 (motorcycles), and M2 (mopeds).... I've got a C-M1 license.

well, I'll be able to have a beer and then ride home. .08 is the legal limit here, a bit below they will issue 24 hour suspension the first time.

M1 (no passengers, night riding or blood alcohol) 3 month period after which it expires or you take the M1 exit exam to get your M2 (see my other post) you have this for at least 2 years up to 4 I believe then you take another exit exam to get you , M (no restrictions)

Cars are the same G1 (no blood alcohol, driving on series 400 highways (the biggies) G2 (blood alcohol content restriction again, G (no restriction)

That's pretty absurd/extreme... does it help?

Around here all the restrictions are age based... as in can't get a permit 'til you are 15.5, a license 'til you are 16, can't drive with certain passengers until you are 18, have a zero-tolerance BAC until you are 21...I didn't bother getting a license until I was over 18 because the restrictions were so silly (no driving with passengers under certain ages unless someone over a certain age was in the car) however, nobody in their right minds would consider barring licensed drivers from major highways. That's the safest place to drive! When I got my driver's license years ago the test included getting onto an interstate (a 10-lane monster highway in my case) merging in with traffic and exiting safely.
