Hey folks,

Feeling like a dope but I recently parked my bike up against a tarp in my garage - DOH!!! The plastic has stuck to the tailpipe, and I'm pissed for being so careless. Has anyone run into this before and if so how did you get the melted plastic off?

Cheers,

QuinRugger

run it til it burns off, or maybe warm it up til its abit plyable and scrape it off with a putty knife?

Got this tip off of motorcycles.about.com. Helped me get rid of the rubber my wife gets on my pipes from her boots.

"To remove melted plastic or rubber from mufflers or chrome, wet a small piece of fine steel wool with WD40 and rub over plastic. Will not scratch metal. Works very well."

Thanks guys - I ended up scraping gently with a real sharp knife after softening with some 3M adhesive remover. I've since cleared the garage so there's a a 3 ft safety zone around my bike!!!

blumagic metal polish takes it off. It can be found cheaply at Canadian Tire and other fine retailers.

I have had the same problem with backpacks. I've put holes in two back packs because I put them over the handlebars when I ran into a store, and came out to find them resting against the exhaust headers, and melting through the nylon.
