A did my practical test about 2 weeks ago, and i was nervous as hell. Haven't done my car test or anything so i didn't know really what to expect. Anyway, started out good and i did my emergency stop well, and my u-turn well. I'd had problems with the u-turn as i have long legs on a short bike. lol. The picture would make you laugh, but i did that fine and everything was all good.

Heading back to the test centre came up to a round about and was in second gear doing about 15-20mph and slowing down. The round about was clear so i was going to just slow more down to about 10mph then follow on through. But it went "lightbulbs" up from there.

A car sped onto the roundabout so i stopped and did all my checks and the life saver and went to go again, but i forgot i was in 2nd gear. Almost stalled the bike but i caught the clutch. Jumped forward a bit then stopped. Looked again and went. I forgot to do another lifesaver and got failed for that.

I was quite p*ssed off but what can you do. I talked to the guy and i accepted it so i am doing it again in a week or two. Booking it again tomorrow as ive had exams the past two weeks. Next time im just going to ride looking backwards lol.

If you stop and check they give you candy, duuuuuh!

Good thing I live in the only state in the US where there is no riding test, just a written test

None at all??!! not even for the full Liscence? jeepers...

Sorry to hear about the fail. Good Luck next time! I'm sure you'll breeze through.

The Lifesaver is indeed the "head check"/"look over your shoulder"/"however you want to describe it" maneuver.

Not a road test persay, but you need to pass a skills test either at an MSF course or through the DMV.

Lifeasver is the second observation, this one in the intended direction of travel in the 'Bikes blindspot, just before performing a maneavour.

The idea is to do it with enough time to bail the maneaour if you discover something in your blindspot. On the British test it is mandatory for every maneavour, although I don't use it anywhere near as often now I'm licenced.

Hi Jim,

You know you can do it and where you picked up the points so don't screw yourself up over it. Just go out and have a good ride on your test.

Are you doing the 33bhp test on a 125 by any chance?

Anytime you have to do a sudden stop, you want to shift down to first as you're stopping so that if you do need to bail - you're good to go. Both hands, both feet before you come to a complete stop. Works everytime.
