Milestones of a sort...

My lil yellow streak o' pi...hmm....anyway.... it passed a milestone of sorts... 1000 miles.

I paid my money 24 days ago, picked it up at 6PM on the 1st of this month, rode it off the lot (yeah, I'm a hypocrit, I tell others it's a bad idea and do it myself), across the street, and into my office for the night. Yep, this bike spent its first two weeks parked at my desk each night and rolling out each day to face the sun and both a noon-time and evening break-in ride. My avatar is a picture of the bike sitting at a computer in my office "working". It lived its first 350 miles that way and if it could think it probably would've thought life was good. Gentle riding by day, and carpets under the tires at night...what an existence!

It's luck changed on the 13th, when I drove down to the office with some friends and casually rode the 60ish miles home while they followed behind. Once there it was poked prodded disassembled reassmebled the windshield was replaced with a home-made larger lexan windshield, the oil was drained, the chain adjusted... and it saw its first commute just a few days later. At 495 miles it got another breather, its top end airing out as we performed a valve adjustment and carb synch.... and then it was back on the road again last Friday with 499 miles on the odometer... today, six (if we are generous) days later, it has 1030 miles... by Sunday it will have 1500 if my plans hold true.

So else? Beyond the 1000th mile mark of course... today was the first day I felt comfortable enough to lane split... I left the office at 5:00 and was home by 6:20! Yeah, that may seem lousy to you... but to me it's a marvel... I normally don't even bother leaving the office until 6:30 because I don't have the patience to crawl the interstate at 3MPH. But today I just slipped along through traffic the way a motorcycle is supposed to. Not all that fast... I stopped splitting any time the traffic was doing over 45 or so... but I never dropped below 25! Whoohoo!

Just felt like sharing. :D

Only when I leave it at the office overnight. I left my bike at work (and commuted by car) for the first two weeks while I went through the break-in period. Now that I'm commuting on the bike I don't bring it inside... though if I decided to leave it at the office overnight for some reason I would.

Congrats on your 1,000 mile mark on the bike! Always nice to see those miles rack up. :)

A side note: I have to disagree with your signature. Don't "ride it like you own it." I prefer "ride it like you rented it."

I'd be much, much easier on a stolen vehicle than a rental. Just sayin'. :whistling:
