I bought an EX500 on Sunday and the bike didn't come with a manual so hopefully you all can answer my questions.
-In the manual, what octane of gasoline is suggested for use?
-What weight of oil is suggested?
-How often do the valves need to be adjusted?
Thanks!

Used bikes give you abouta 50% chance of actually getting a manual.

hey man, welcome to the club!
i hav a 05 ex500....just changed oil a few days ago and it was 3.2 quarts....i know..its ALOT but ya thats how much it needs.
i don't have the manual but use 89, (manual says 89 also)....itll run better than if you put 93...isnt that awesome?!
...oh and ya, don't even fill up your tank too much, thats how i kinda messed up my bike.
ex500riders.com is a really cool site and they have alot of info on the ex since 99% of em ride it.
have fun with the EX!

should be able to order a shop manual or a Haynes manual from your local shop.

My gf (Sparxxx) just bought an '06 Ninja 500R (EX500 to you yanks)
Manual calls for 91 Octane fuel
Oil capacity should be stamped on the side of the engine case somewhere near the oil filler cap. 10w40 is standard
As to frequency of checking the valves, can't help you there I'm afraid (manual not in front of me)
I do have the Kawi shop manual for the bike though, and I will check it later and get back to you.

What method of calculation? (RON+MON)/2 ? Brits use RON or MON, not the average, if I recall correctly.

Manual uses Research Octane Number (RON)
Oil is 3.4L of 10w40, 10w50, 20w40, or 20w50
Valve clearance checks are recommended every 12000km/7500 miles
