Got my bike!

#1 Unread post by FlyerPhil »

Brought it back in a truck Thursday, got it registered Friday.

Woo-Hoo!

How do I go about getting spare sets of keys?

I thought I lost my keys once, and was told I would have to buy a new ignition system, your dealership may be able to cut you some extras though.

Nice bike though..shiney!

I got spare keys made at ACE Hardware. But it depends on your key, most places can't copy motorcycle keys. Just run around and check a bunch of hardware stores. Although I know Home Depot can't copy motorcycle keys.

Oh, and nice bike.

Hey that's a nice magna :D
Your local motorcycle dealership should be able to cut you a key. I think you'll have to provide proof of ownership because they don't want to cut a key for someone else's bike

I just took my key to a local key cutter. Cost a whopping $4.00.

Thanks :D I was going to send you a message about your '87. I *love* the Supers (lost the bidding for an 87 on ebay in Feb, still hurts...) but decided the 3rd gen were a little more practical for commuting, especially needing saddlebags. Even if I could find a way to do it, I'd have hated covering those beautiful pipes with bags.

I'll get one someday.

I also need a copy of the key to the LeatherLyke bags.

Took my first real ride on streets today. About 8 miles on quiet Sunday streets. All left turns for some reason. Good experience.

Yeah you're 100% correct on the practicality comment! Plus it is super hard finding stuff for this bike. Other owners are fanatical so you have to fight them off with a stick on ebay auctions!

Is this your first bike? If so, you're in for a real treat. The Magnas pack quite a punch in a small package. Once you get comfortable on it, you can easily outrun bigger V-Twin cruisers. The REAL power cruisers like the VTX1800, VRODs, Valkyrie and VMAX (if you consider this a cruiser) are the only ones that will really show you tail lights...

Anyways, looks like you're already decked out for touring. Happy trails.
