Shocking...someone wants a cellphone to...call people!

I'm the same way. I have my PDA for the technical stuff. I don't want a cellphone that can do a zillion things. Remember when cellphones just had a number pad and a digital screen that showed you the number you were dialing? The 'tone' option was a variation of normal ringing. I didnt have to press 15 buttons to call someone on speeddial. Oh, those were the days.

Cellphone companies would make more money if they just offered consumers a real mobile phone instead of a gameboy. Market that to high school kids, they're the only ones who care.

Some companies even refuse to let you activate older phones, the ones that were rugged and worked forever.

If I want to surf the internet, I'll use a wireless laptop.

I couldn't agree more. I hate modern cellphones, with their tiny buttons and all the features that can trip you up if you touch the wrong button. Way back when, I had one of the old Motorola "brick" phones, and it worked just fine. I would pay extra to have a simple phone instead of the feature-laden POS I have now.

Motorolla v551j. Has more features thanyou want. But easy to use.

You press the call button, get list of recent calls you made. Press down, and BAM your phone book. camera button turns on the camerea. Menu button, gasp, a menu.big enough to make it easy to use, but not big and cumbersome. Though if you guys are having serious problems with your phones, maybe you're just too old :peep:

my old cellphone was a nokia brick, didnt do anything but make calls, was a standard phone, heavy well built and awesome, lasted 7 years, two battles with soda and many drops, when i had to change companies cingular refused to activate it because it was to out of date to run their operationg systems, wasent sure how that was possible as only days before it had been running the highly complex and confusing verizon system, but alas they screwed me over and now i got some high tech uber phone with features i dont need, want or know how to use even if i did want em. Its a shame because those old phones are the best, simple and practicle and indestructible, these new things are just high tech toys.

My new phone is a Samsung from Bell Canada. I was offered phones with more features including a camera, but I picked the simple one. This new phone is very user friendly.
My last phone was a Nokia from Telus. I hated it. I needed to carry the instruction book with me every where I went.

As a teenager myself, i like a cell phone with options... But i don't need a cellphone where i can set my TiVo, if i had one.... But that would be neat actually. I like camera phones cause us teenagers are always doing something dumb and it's always great to have pictures of it!

I think you are missing the point. Cellphones themselves really are simple to use. The menus are not confusing, but I'm sure the 'general public' is frustrated. The 'general public' can barely figure out how to use the automated checkout at the grocery store.

The point is not whether we're capable of using the phone, its that it has a bunch of annoying features that I dont want or need. My wifes phone, you have to go through at least 2 submenus to get the thing to set to vibrate or turn off the ringer. Its not that I cant do it, its that I shouldnt have to. Its stupid. I just want the phone to call people, thats it.
