Buying A 73 Honda 250, Etc.

Hi there
I'm thinking of buying a 1973 Honda 250 (street bike- I don't know the model).
It has about 5,000 miles on it. It looks to be in pretty good condition. They're asking $600 for it.
I am kind of a beginner rider- I've got a 73 Honda Trail 90 that I drive around in the neighborhood occasionally.
Is there any advice you can give me on this particular bike?
What to watch out for? advice on things to assess?
Do you have an idea about what kind of gas mileage I could expect out of this bike?
I'm also considering looking for a dirt bke that I could also use on the street. How do dirt bkes compare to street bkes when it comes to gas mileage?
I know this is alot to throw out, but I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me.
Have a great day! Bawanaboy

To be honest, I don't remember Honda making a pure street bike in a 250cc in '73. If I'm not mistaken, the only 250's Honda made that year were the XL250, which was an enduro, and maybe the Elsinore, which was a motocross bike.

but i've never seen one in person, might be a european only bike.

if its not that, its most likely a cb350, which they made many many of.

I don't think the CB250 was available in the U.S. I had a CB175, and the CB350's were a dima a dozen!

They put that bike in the "Sport Touring" category  I like the way they think

Thanks for all the responses that I've gotten.
I messed up- it turns out it's a 73 Honda CB350, not a 250.
It hasn't been riden for 2 yrs or so. The carberator had been overhauled and had only been riden once since. They had drained all the gas out back at that time also.
Anyway, I will check for further responses- they've been helpful.
Thanks again.
