New Rider, Insurance Questions
Hi, I'm new to the forums and I'm completely stupified over insurance rates. I did an online Geico and Progressive quote, and both came back for around $2300!!! This is several hundred dollars more than the bike I was thinking about getting. How can this be?
P.S. I live in Virginia, am 19 yrs old, male. 1993 Yamaha FZR600

Several things influence your insurance rate. The state you live in, the type of bike, the model of your bike, your age, your past insurance history (ie accidents, tickets, violations, etc), your credit history, the area you live in, and your lifestyle (married, own a home, etc). Other factors apply as well that could give you rebates such as multiple vehicles on the same policy or other insurances through that company like renters or homeowners.
You're looking at a sportbike, a popular model and you're young. Those are 3 strikes against you right off the bat that I saw without knowing any other information.
Shop around and actually speak to some local insurance agents in your area.
Good Luck!

Those online quotes are BS anyway.
I was getting the same sort of quotes from "progressive"... called them and the quote was $1600 less...no, I'm not kidding...same info provided, but $1600 difference in quote for the same bike. Hate to think of how much business progressive has lost (and how many people they've scared away from motorcycles) with that online quote system.
Other companies were still cheaper for me.
OTOH, 600cc sportbike for a teen is gonna be $$$$ to insure 'cause they are "high risk".

Ride it like you think owning it matters.

I bought insurance through progressive with their online quote thing, and I'm 17. My rate is $212 a year. My step dad also got insurance through them with the online quote, and got $75 a year. It's probably your bike.

i think your coverage/deductable is too large etc. If you select personal injury etc with a sport bike, its gonna be huge.
mine came out to be around 240/year through progressive online

you probably also have PL/PD rather than full coverage and you probably also have seasonal rates. Also if your under "Daddies" insurance it will be lower just because of that.camthepyro wrote:I bought insurance through progressive with their online quote thing, and I'm 17. My rate is $212 a year. C'mon lets not go overboard...HandsomeRyan wrote:performance is worht nothing if you cant outperform the bike.get soemthign smaller to learn on and go bigger once you can ride, not the other way around.
Performance is worth something, especially if you ride on the freeway alot. I cannot ride my SV650s to its limts on twisty roads yet, but I can quickly find its limits on the freeway.
