Hello Everyone,
I am new to the forum, but I’m definitely enjoying the threads. I am currently living in Grand Cayman, which I know sounds wonderful… until I realized that there is NO MOTORCYCLE shop here. It’s kind of like that milk commercial where the guy has a room full of cookies to indulge on and once his mouth is completely stuffed he realizes there’s no milk. There are plenty of mopeds/scooters here, but that just doesn’t cut it for me. There is one guy that recently opened a Harley tour business, but like everything else here, we’ll see how long it lasts. If you are in Cayman on a cruise or anything you should definitely check out the HD tour. It’s a guided tour lasting about three hours, where you follow the tour guide around the scenic island on your rented Sporty 1200. I’m not a huge fan of the Sporty, but it beats the alternative moped rentals. It looks like I’ll be here (bikeless) until April, so until I get back to the states I’ll have to live vicariously through your threads.

wonderful area down there. Suprised that there are no bike shops, i would think with the money flowing through that town youd have great sales, guess not. Bummer about being bikeless. As the HD guys how they got their bikes, maybe they can hook up ya with a Buell or something.

I’ve checked into getting a bike shipped down here, but it’s such a hassle. I’d have to ship it from Miami and go through all of the hoops of Cayman registration. If I were able to get it successfully licensed, then I’d have to look for insurance (practically non-existent for bikes over 250cc here). After all of that you have to get a special motorcycle drivers license (which is the equivalent of obtaining your CDL in the states) to ride a bike over 250cc. This place is just not very biker friendly. It is a total tourist destination; there is a “Harley shop” but there are no motorcycles; it is only able to sell HD licensed gear – typically HD shirts that say Grand Cayman somewhere. If bike fever hits me too bad I may just have to take a Harley tour.

A 250cc scooter that's got the traditional motorcycle design (i.e. not step-thru) should be fine... I don't see how the hell anyone can turn down two-wheeled transportation of any kind. "Doesn't cut it"!?!?!?! Puhleeease.



Even if it's a step-thru scooter. Or 150cc. Christ. You live on an island. Take it easy - enjoy the scenery live a little -in the slow lane-

The slow lane… coming from a cat with an FJ1200. It’s not that a scooter wouldn’t have its advantages, but if you thought riding on the US streets was dangerous. I may warm up to the idea of a non-step through, but I’m going to have to get used to driving my cage around on the wrong side of the road first.

yup, i have an fj1200.

I also have a 50cc moped, a 200cc vespa, and a 360cc honda.

SO what was your point again?

i rode a 125cc Vino scooter this weekend and had a blast. if i didn't have to drive over 80kmph routinely i would consider buying one for bombing around on.
