Sore hands during ride

First off I am the proud new owner of a Ducati Supersport 1000.
Just passed the state riding exam this morning so I can ride now.
My problem is sore hands after only a few minutes on the bike. I can't seem to find a comfortable position. I don't have gloves yet, but not sure they would help. Pain is in the meaty part of the palm just below the pinky finger and of course along the base of the hand where the wrist joint is. Should I have the bars adjusted, gel gloves, not sure what to try.
Thanks for the help.

gloves will help a little bit, but the vibration from an engine that massive, plus the agressive stance, will still be a problem, adjust how you grib the handles and see what works.

Is that bike new to you? If so your body may not be used to it yet? Or are you new to riding in general? I remember when I took the MSF course, my fore arms were sore from using the clutch and throttle.
I also went on a day trip last Sunday and even though I was using gloves with gel in the palms, my palms felt like they were numb. The effect only lasted for about 10 minutes but it felt like "The Stranger"

Gloves will definately help... many have gel right in the area you are talking about. you may also want to change your grips to some after market ones that someone may be able to recommend to you.

Your hands hurt cause you were holding on- gripping too tight, r-e-l-a-x, calm down, move up on the seat, think of good things when you ride, like think of some hottie babe co-worker, pretend she's riding on the back and shes holding on and saying "oh Carl go faster, faster"

Clip-ons are just not designed to be comfortable. The wrist is anatomically straight yet when holding the bars it puts pressure on the exact spot you mentioned and turns the wrist outward.
I broke my wrist badly several years ago and can no longer ride full on sprotsbike due to the uncomfortable wrist position, so I now ride a more upright bike with a set of MX bars on it and can ride all day no worries.

road cyclists get something similar in their wrists as well. I ended up cutting through 3 tendons, a radial nerve and an artery in my right wrist about a year ago, and sometimes it acts up if I'm riding for longer periods of time. Your palms/thumb can also go numb due to pressure pinching the nerves in your hands. Gloves will help

So you were breaking into a car and hurt youself?
Anyway, yeah, gloves help, not holding the bars tight helps. And you always get pains in your hands when you first start riding, until you build up more hand strength, because of pulling the clutch, letting it out, in, out, in, out. Same with the front brake lever.
