The Big Splat: When squid meets steel!
So im on the road working today (ice delivery driver) and im sitting at a light when i here a loud screech followed by a bang. i look up as fast as i can and i see what looks like a body fly into the back of the f-150 next to me. Upon closer inspection i notice that it is a body and that it probably came off the motorcycle now wedged under the truck. Having a rudimentary knowledge of first aid i felt inclined to help so i jump out of the truck as fast as i can and hop into the back of the f-150 with the body in it. what i fidn is a 21 year old wearing----you guessed it a t-shirt and jean shorts, complete with flip flops. he is concious and coherent so he tells me his head leg and arm hurt. i quickly find an obviously fractured right forearm (the text book example of a colles/silver fork fracture). amazingly there was a two foot section of 2x4 laying in the bed of the truck so i used his belt and the 2x4 to quickly splint his forearm. moving on i find a nice 6 inch gash on the back of his left leg. i quickly whipped out my trusty dusty pocket knife and cut a nice section out of the bottom of his shirt and bandaged his leg. before all this the guy in the truck had called 911, so soon after in down with his leg the squad shows up. and amazingly enough i knew one of the guys!! after i told the medics my findings and what i had done i looked at the medic i knew and said, " Nick if you push any morhpine on him im gonna be pissed, this guy deserves the pain" nick replies, " ok" and they took over. upon reviewing the situation i have deduced what happened, we were sitting at the light stopped for about 30 seconds or so, there was noone behind the f-150 and the bike was just going too fast. i dont know how he managed to get into the bed, but at least he didnt go under the truck with the bike. luckily for him the truck had a net and the guy went through the net instead of a real tailgate. i figure the net saved his life. so what was he riding? oh right he was on a brand new 'busa 1300 still had thirty day tags on it. before i left i checked the odometer and it only had 47.3 miles on it. shame it had to go under a truck so soon.
