I have been using Caterpillar boots while riding my Daytona 675 this past week, so I have not had a problem. However, I purchased some regular cycle boots today and they are so stiff I can barely move my feet in them.

How do you guys shift with race boots on? I can't seem to get my boot under the gear shift while on the peg. The only way I can shift gears is by taking my foot off the peg and shifting from under the peg. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Should I just stick with my Cats?

You can adjust the shift lever, the shift lever is mounted on a spline and it can be moved and adjusted up and down, just mark the current postion where its bolted to the spline before you remove it with a ink marker and move it up a couple teeth and tighten it up.

Also your new boots sound like theyneed to be broken in. I just bought some Sidi boots and I was missing upshifts (more than usual ) but they've had about a week of use and not missing upshifts as much now.

Yeah, I bought Alpinestars boots and had the same stiffness problem...after a week or so it was all good again.

just need to break your boots in, might also check into adjusting your shifter up a little.

My boots were a little stiff at first, now that they are broken in I would rather ride with those than with my work boots.

They should lossen up, but I dunno for sure. I ride in steel toed work boots. They are so dang comfy, i can have them on 10-12 hours before my feet start clamoring to be free.

I was looking at some Sidi boots on the internet. How is the fit, do they correspond to American sizing or should I upsize a bit? My "tennis" shoes are getting the crap kicked out of them from the shifter so I'll need to decide on boots pretty soon.

Hi.

Get yourself down to a local dealer/bike outfitter and get yourself a complete set up that is bike rated.

The boots, jacket, leathers/bike jeans, gloves, spine protector, helmet - everything that you don't already have.

Spend time in there trying things on and wearing them around the store, make sure they are a comfortable fit for you, especially the helmet and boots. If the store isn't willing to be helpful walk out and go see the competition.

You've already dropped a bundle of cash on your ride, don't scimp on your safety gear. Buy good gear that fits and wear it all the time.

I suspect that will be the best peice of advice you are going to get all day.

Sidis tend to run dead on or slightly big. Get your normal size or one half size smaller for street boots. dont get race boots without trying them on, race boots need to have a closer fit than street boots as they have less flexability in them.

regarding boots, why is a pair of cycle boots better then a heavy pair of high top leather work boots?

and when one says "street boots" that means regular boots, or are there race motorcycle boots, and street motocycle boots?or only race boots?

(regarding jacket, helm and gloves, its obvious to me, just the boots, i dont get it - I just want to know why.)
