My gas tank is really wiggley. Is there an easy way to tighten it up?

Also, my bike has a squeak now I don't know what it is. The squeak comes when I go over bumps mostly. Would standing back and hosing the bike with oil help? *sigh*

yup, would probably get rid of any squeek, and any use in your brakes as for the tank, checked all the bolts and such? Could be something has come loose, if not then see if you can find where its not fixed in solid as it should be and try to see how that area was once stable.

I think that bike has 2 clamps. 1 in front near the neck of the frame and another at the rear near the seat. You can remove the seat and might be able to access the clamp bolts from there. The front bolts might need to be tighten too and you may need to remove the plastic engine cover (looks chrome) and get at the front ones.

A co-worker of mine has your exact same bike. I was able to get a gander at it during one of my inspection.

As far as squeeks, they're hard to find. It's not like a car where you can have a passenger listen to it while you drive. My advice is to tighten up various suspension parts first and work your way from there.

I think Bachstrad is on track re: the tank, my buddy has the same bike and that setup sounds very familiar, though I wasn't really working on it, more just hanging back, drinking PBR, and saying " yyep " while he tinkered

It should be fairly easy to isolate the squeak if you have a helper. get someone to sit on the bike and bounce up and down on the suspension while you move your ear around looking for the squeak. First places to check are the forks and swingarm bushing. Good luck!

It looks like you have a VT750. The "loose" tank is normal. I hate to say this but they all do that. There are two large rubber grommets on the frame that the tank slides into. The tank has just enough space to "jiggle." Just double check the mounts.

Thanks you guys! That's good stuff to know. I did have the seat off and tightened those but they were already super tight (against that rubber thing, that is). But now that I have an idea of where to look I'll dig under that plastic cover to look for more stuff to tighten or play with

every motorcycle shop sells a bungee strap net in all sorts of colors for around $6.99, you can find one that matches the color of ur tank and use that to secure ur tank

aside from that that would look rediculous, where would you attach the straps?

moto'll say "Just tie em off to those silver pipes that stick out of those things with all the fins."

Bungee cords are great for holding down gear, the tank on the other hand… no way!
