You might want to check out the state statues in each state. They can usualy be found in a quick "google" search.

Public flogging I think. Or when the cop pulls you over use an austrian accent.

In CA they can impound your bike for up to 6 months if you don't have an M1 or M2 endorsement or your license is suspended. To get the bike back you must pay storage fees which really add up. That's in addition to the regular fines.

In Oregon they will impound your vehicle if you are caught without insurance. A hefty fine and proof of insurance to get it back, plus storage and towing fees.

They really impound bikes? All the riders up here in WA that get busted down there "only" get the $450 ticket.

You'd think after a few of these, $150 for a year of insurance would look pretty good. :frusty:

In California they can impound vehicles for lack of insurance, but it is usually reserved for repeat or extreme offenders.

The problem in both cases (insurance or license) is that the rider can't legally drive the bike (or car) away... I had a friend who was caught on a suspended license (he didn't know it was suspended) and he had to call someone to drive his car... they were going to tow it otherwise.

Also, according to the brochures they hand out, when local police forces do paperwork stops (where they block off a street so nobody can turn around and check the license and paperwork of all vehicles that pass) they will impound for anything they find because what they really want is the $2000 per vehicle that it gets them in towing and impound kickbacks.

Cops generally can't knowingly allow you to commit a crime....

unlicensed and uninsured riders give all motorcyclists a bad reputation, not to mention the level of financial risk they are assuming (i'm not talking about loss of an $8k financed sportbike, i'm talking potentially tens of thousands in liability for damages to another motorist.)

motorcycling entails an adult level of responsibility. be an adult and get your endorsement and at least some liability insurance, no matter if it's compulsory in your state or not. k? thx.
