couple of questions...

1. when your rear tire slides. what do you need to do? by instincts i will ease out on the throttle. what's the right reaction assuming im not trail braking?

2. im having problems w/ blind corners. even if i already know the road, im still having a hard time gauging my entry speed. i always end up taking it slower.

i'll re-read sport riding techniques as well.

I think, for number one, you're supposed to increase the throttle.

The general rule of MC's seems to be 'when in doubt, give it gas'. It gets you out of tank slappers, makes you more stable, and some other crap which I can't recall at this time (it's 12:00 AM and I worked 11 hours today, leave me be).

But take heed of that word 'think'.

don't tell me you're already having trouble with the back end stepping out? How hard are you running that bike???

If the back end starts to slide don't fight it, don't go with it, don't speed up, don't slow down. Any change in speed just reduces the amount of traction the tire can produce. Keep your chin up and watch the horizon.

I think you need to be more careful riding, I've only had that happen 3 times with my bike. Once I was showing off, once I tried to lean to hard to early, and once a HUGE gus of wind whipped down between some buildings downtown grabbed my back end and shoved me clear across the lane. Be careful out there.

i've only had it happen to me twice(unwantedly), but i've done it many times on purpose (to show off)

the first time was when i was mking a right on a street and there was alot of *water* or idk what it was on the ground...so i really slowed down before the turn and i was going maybe 3-5mph, but it still slipped....kept on the gas and it popped back into place.

the other time was when i was changing gears in a turn and many of you know how that happened....i was in a turn leaning, alot of crap on the ground....went from 1st accidentaly into neutral, then reved alot cause bike wasn't moving, realized it was in neutral, while reving popped her in second....the rear tire slipped....the bike started wobbling....i "poo poo" my pants....bike fell on my leg, rode rash on my knee, couldn't ride for a month......and i still have pain in my right ankle...from 2+ months ago.

so ya, like sev said....be careful out there....and try not to change gears while in a turn.

If you slip the clutch you can change gears in a turn without a problem. At least, I've never had one

Tire sliding in corners-ease off throttle
Tire grabs traction and flips rider over the highside.

Blind corners.

If you cannot see the exit-SLOW THE **** DOWN!

it only happened once in a corner and it wasn't a violent slide so i was fine.

and thanks for the info. now i know i need to just maintain throttle.

and yeah, i try to do most of my gear changing before turns. although on this particuluar canyon that i practice... im staying on 2nd gear all the time.

Never...never...never take a blind corner at a rate of speed where you cannot see. Rule of thumb, if you are going so fast that you cannot stop within your line of sight, slow down. That's not skillful riding, that's just plain common sense.

Whether or not you 'know' the road is irrelevent. Road conditions change constantly...someone could have lost a hubcap, a tree branch could have fallen, or a rock, or an animal could be standing there. You could literally go down the road, turn around and go back the same way 30 seconds later and the road conditions could have completely changed...leaving you on the asphalt.

nope, i haven't done it... yet.

im still playing around w/ it like watching my speed at certain rpms, how fast can it take to 60mph, how does it feel at 120mph, and other stuff.

after im done playing, i'll try if i can discipline myself to not pay attention to it.

rear brake? You should be using the front 90% of the time.
