Scariest Moment on a Bike

#1 Unread post by bcarlson »

Well, today I ran my bike up to Kalamazoo (yes this is a real city) for its first service. On the highway, some jerk just merges into my lane. There is pretty dense traffic and no place to go except the shoulder, so next thing I know I'm doing 80 on that gravel/sand stuff you see along the side of the highway. Its a weird feeling being borderline out of control; fortunately I just eased on over again without incident (guy passed me, I got in behind). The odd thing is I didn't really get scared or tense up mostly because I didn't have time. The dealer did ask what the big pinch in the seat was from.....

Something similar happened to me except the nice looking young couple in the car were smiling and waving at me as the ran me off the road. When I passed them later they were still smiling and waving and no they didn't stop much less slow down.

  For whatever reason the only phrase I know of that can describe that is when my cousin gave me some random strong liquor and said "this'll pucker your butt-hole"

Hey! Did you steal that from Garfield! I read the comics (the only section of the newspaper worth reading) and it was about Jon blind-dating a chic with hair down her back...

Hmmm...let's see...Well, there was a time when I was daydreaming on the 405 frwy. in So. Cal. when the next thing I saw were a sea of brake lights and I was doing about 85. I could'nt brake quick enough so I just split a lane and found myself screaming through a dangerously narrow passage and sheared some guy's mirror of his cage. With all that traffic, I couldn't do anything about the mirror so I just kept going...Scared the s@%! out of me though...

On my beloved CG doing 65 overtaking a Scania on a two lane a road, deicded to hang in the left hand lane until I could see the scania in my mirror before pulling back in.

Next thing I know there is the bright red wing of a car next to my right knee, this middle aged middle class woman had one wheel up on the central reservation and one in my lane. Then she moved across.

I swooped across into the lefthand lane to avoid contact.

I had L Plates on, I could have just completed my CBT with no road experience, lost control of the bike nad gone under the Scania. I was soooooooooooooo angry afterwards I wanted to hunt her down and kick her mirrors off, but looking at my knee and seeing the car there was plenty scary at the time.

From the way she disappeared she was ton up at the time.

my scariest moment...leading my Brother and his friends from Banff to Calgary on the 1A. Just outside of Morley we go through some turns and i look back and see no bike behind me at all.

loop around on the highway and come back to see two bikes on the side of the road and one in the ditch. the one in the ditch was my bro.

I deal with stupid cages every day, but nothing has been as scary as that for me

2 come to mind-

riding on the interstate at about 80mph when a HUGE wind gust blew me over about 2 feet sideways in my lane and almost took the bike out from under me.

also

riding out in the country and a dog ran out of some roadside bushes and almost right under my tire. i had no time to react. almost hit the dog [sad] and almost wecked at speed [double sad]. i refuse to ride down that road now.
