When a helmet fits properly, should the padding cover your jaw bone?

I went to two dealerships today (one Suzuki and the other Kawasaki) in order to try on every helmet I could. I tried on Shoei (RF1000 and TZ-R), Scorpion (EXO 700 and 400), Fulmer, HJC, KBC (?), etc. Medium and Large in each model

The two that seemed to fit best were the TZ-R and the EXO 700.

The RF1000 felt too comfortable on my checks...like the helmet would easily move if pushed at all (and it did). None of the Fulmer or KBC (?) helmets seem to hit my head very well. The HJC seemed to be OK.

There were two or three (can't remember which ones...I know the RF1000 was one of them) helmets that when I tried on the medium size the helmet didn't seem to come all the way down to the bottom of my jaw bones. If I went to the large size they covered my jaw bones but they seemed to be a little loose in a couple places. That's what led me to the question of whether the helmet should go "around" your jaw bone or not.

Really liked the Shoei TZ-R model and the Scorpion EXO700 model. Can anyone comment on either of those helmets?

i've had a RF1000 before. it was good helmet. it still fogs though.

i now have a scorpion exo 700. the vents on the scorpion is much better compared to RF1000. the price tag is also a bonus. don't know yet if it fogs since it's summer here now.

Did the helmets you picked out fulfill the recommended guidelines in that post? Did they fit snug? Did you see your scalp/eyebrows move when you tried to move the helmet on your head? The helmet should be properly snug without giving you hot spots on pressure points.

Does your jawbone protrude unnaturally from the bottom of the helmet??

It seems you might be concerned overall with how a particular model of helmets fit everybody. The answer is, there isi no right answer. Each person has a different shape, so asking how a helmet fit on one guy won't necessarily be how it will fit you.

Though if you're asking about models as far as quality goes, then that'll be easy to answer.

Anyone have any riding experience wearing the Scorpion EXO400? Tried on a bunch of helmets at the stealer yesterday and this one fit like a glove. Just curious of it's aerodynamics with wind hitting it.

Speaking from experience, my HJC (Dot and Snell) failed to protect both sides of my jaw (one fracture going through the window, the other on impact to the ground).

OR

It suceeded in protecting me from an even worser (?) fracture.


Not sure what to make of it...

I had padding over it.
