Drafty helmets?

#1 Unread post by ttussok »

Hi, I have been around awhile, and have been riding for about a year. I've dealt with it since I started riding, but this helmet I have is just making my ride unenjoyable. I'm wondering (before I buy a new helmet), is it normal for the face-shield to be extremely drafty? It keeps out the majority of the wind and I'm grateful I have it every time a rock or bug hits me. So... Especially on the freeway, the wind coming through is terrible, and it makes me not want to look over my shoulder before changing lanes, because wind catches under the face shield and lifts it up, blowing air right in my eyes. This is dangerous and I want to get a new helmet ASAP if this can be avoided.

Is this just a cheap helmet? Is there any commercial product you know of that can help wind-proof a helmet?

What type of helmet do you have? What brand? Does it "flip open" or is it a 1 peice full face helmet?

It's a AFX full helmet large size, flip up face shield.

heh... its your helmet. First of all the cheaper helmets, which I think AFX is... sorta like KBC make the flip up parts not close with a tight seal so lots of air can get in. I did a google serach and found a few reviews on those helmets and others seem to say the same thing. You might want to check out a 1 peice full face or a more expensive brand like Icon, Shoei or even HJC which is a little cheaper but still good quality.

I have the flip up Nolan N102 and it rawks. I have a review of it in the product reviews section if you want to read about it. If the wind can flip up your faceshield that is a crappy helmet, no offense.
