So, I just picked up my bike last weekend. I don't have a garage to keep it in, and am wondering what my options are as far as making sure it doesn't walk. I'm not in a high traffic area, on a one way street, but I am in a city. The bike has a fork lock, which I am using. I am also parking it on the walk beside my house, where it is visible from the street, but not overtly out in the open. I've purchased a cover for it as well, to keep rain exposure to a minimum. What else can I do to make sure my bike stays mine until I decide to part with it? Also, what else, if anything, should I look into as far as weather protection?

Can you chain it to an unmovable object like a fence or street lamp? I too don't have the luxury of a garage so I have my bike covered, use a fork lock and also a cable lock it to a nearby bush. Now the bush can probably be broken up but they'll have to make a huge racket. Also it is in veiw of a motion detector operated lamp. I've thought about an alarm but the bike is pretty old so I don't think anyone would really like to take it, but in your case you may want to invest in an alarm.

is there room where you can put up one of those portable garages? just a thought lol. Even though I own a garage (yippee) I will still lock it in my garage even though I keep my garage door locked (well i will once I actually get the bike lol).

If you can afford it, what about a rental storage? I am renting one until my landlord has a garage available.

Pending on your locale, weather can really damage your bike costmetically. I'd get a good water proof cover and clamp that bike down if you're unable to get a wheel lock if you don't have garage access.

I went so far as to put a wireless-G motion detected camera that monitors inside my garage. If it detects motion, it activates my PC to record the acitivity. Even if the thieves sees my camera and destroys it, the footage is saved onto my PC which is located in my aparment.

depending on your situation, you could get a half shed that you could wheel it into. the cover is a great idea since at least they don't know what is under the cover...unless of course it's got some big fancy "CHECK OUT MY COOL RIDE UNDER THIS COVER" signs on it or something.

determined thieves will steal anything they want...you can make it difficult for them so they find easier targets elsewhere though.

Man that's extreme. I can understand it, but still...Any interesting footage yet?

I would get a rusty old 75 Vespa, cover it, and put this sign on it.

I've had a couple of stereo systems ripped off from my modest cars. I don't go booming through my neighborhood either. I do turn it up on the highway, but far from announcing to the world I have an upgraded sound system. Despite this, I've gotten broken into in neighborhoods I consider quite safe.

I work in IT, so computer gadgets perks my attention. I set it up as an inquisitive project. It turned out great! I have one cam inside my garage. Another inside my apartment. Both are motion triggered. I can operate both cameras remotely via browser from anywhere in the world. It pans, zooms, and is completely hidden inside daily decor.

Have I gotten some interesting footages? Yeah. I caught my land lord coming inside my apartment without my consent once. I approached him about this and gave a really lame excuse. He knew I had evidence. I reaffirmed him I had such monitoring in place. No more unconsent entry for over 2 years.

The device is wicked. It'll even page me if it turns on.
