Anybody got any ideas about oiling clutch, throttle and brake cables? Must say I've never done this on any bike I've had, but I'm determined to keep up a proper maintenance schedule and it's something I'll need to do pretty soon.

In my manual it talks about rigging up some weird plastic bag idea and letting the oil feed itself into the cable by gravity, or using some kind of force feeder.

my manual sais just to hold the cable up, and drip some oil in the top, it should come out the bottom...easy sounding enough.

forget them plastic bags that just make a big mess.get a spark plug boot and push it down over the cable and use a small hose clamp to tighten the boot to the cable housing.then fill it with oil and let it run down in the cable.all of them store bought cable oilers suck too.

You should consider getting a lube injector to make the process a lot smoother and cleaner.'m still figuring out the throttle cable. Clutches are the easiest since all you have to do is align the slots, yank the cable back and pull it out.

I'm not sure about brake cables sinc my front brake is hydraulic. I lube the rear drum by spraying or wiping some grease onto the front of the cable by the pedal... my half-crack way of doing that.

Don't use oil - attracts too much dirt. Use a cable lube.
