Hi guys, so I've got two 80 Yamaha xs400's and I'm trying to gain access to the points but am having issues removing the cover. There are two phillips head screws holding down the cover but there is a brass insert or plug that is blocking one of them. My shop manual doesn't say anything about these?!
How do you remove these without damaging the screw beneath?
Thanks!!

To remove the plug, first drill a small hole dead in the middle VERY CAREFULLY so you don't hit the head of the screw beneath it. Then insert a small sheetmetal screw or similar, spray the plug with WD-40, then with pliers, VERY CAREFULLY, pull the plug out. You may have to give it a few good tugs. But you have to be careful or you can crack the cover. Hope that helps.
