Well i have a 1974 honda XL100 and this is my first bike, it was given to me in fair condition with a couple of details to work out. First it wants to run but it seems as though it isn't getting gas I don't know if the carb is shot or what, and i guess the second more important thing is the kick start was kicked down and jammed in the lower position. I don't really know much about bikes i can take anythign apart and put it together again I just don't know what i'm looking for. I would like to get this trials bike on the road i'm just getting stuck with the how to. If anyone knows anything it would be a great help to me thanks.

First, buy a service manual.

When you get that, we can go from there.

These engines (and carburetors) are as basic as it gets. You should be able to get the bike running in no time (If it indeed can be gotten runnable) If you can follow the simple instructions laid out in the manual. A decent set of tools helps

I have a shop with plenty of tools, i took apart the carb and cleaned it i also cleaned the part sticking out of the gas tank, I have yet to try it now due to a minor hole in the tank. My biggest concern now is to fix the kickstart. where would i find a manual on that and if parts are needed can i still get them?

You can find a manual by clicking the link Tech provided in his post. You can also order one from a dealership or various other online outlets. It will tell you how to take the start lever and sidecover off so you can see what's wrong inside.

I knew about the link above the thing is on the little plate that has the VIN number it says the year is 2/74 and i can't find anything on a XL 100 for that year, noit blue book not anything only 125 could that year be wrong or what i'm not sure but even the books that he linked me don't match up

OK, so it's not a 74 ... you must have a gray market xl ... unless honda was playing stupid w/ their model years (very possible) Or ... unless it's a 125.
Anyway, like I said, these engines are as basic as a 4-stroke engine can get - ditto for the carbs. If you get a manual like the one above it should put you well in the ballpark of what you need to know. You can contact honda about a factory manual, but if there is one, you will pay out the rear for it. You can also contact honda and give them the vin number of the bike ... they can tell you what the model year is. (might be '75)
