Calgary - AMRA Mini roadracing - THIS WEEKEND

#1 Unread post by QuietMonkey »

Heads up kids in Calgary, both young and old,

The AMRA Mini roadracing club is having their season opening "WARM UP" session this weekend April 17th. I am pretty sure they are running on the the mini (Kart Track) at the far south entrance just past the main gates to Race City. (some later events will be held on the full Race City course (shortened to mini size).

Everyone is welcome to spectate, and with CMA license, it is quite likely that bringing some decent riding gear and kind words will enable a rider to take a "loaner" for a spin around the course. Lots of fun!

I haven't done it in a long time, but have some mini laps under my belt, doing an endurance race at Kart Gardens on the YSR50s. The YSR80s are funner, and the XR100s and such all make for a good show out there. There will be liquid cooled 2-stroke 80s mixing it up, and other purpose built miniracers --> Genuinely fast bikes on the mini circuit!

This new track is a bit nicer than the old Kart Gardens track, and there are a good group of people out there. Some are in it for the fun and some are in it to win... competitive spirit is everywhere!!

I think you can check out the layout of the circuit at the Kart Club site:

The mini racing was a blast this weekend! pretty decent weather, and some large classes (races with 15-20 riders and about 75 riders/crew/friends in attendance)... lots of variety of bikes.

My buddy and a few others run full production GP bikes fitted with 80cc liquid-cooled motocross engines ;-) NICE!

There were kids, teenagers, women, and the regular gamut of adult males pushing the limits.

Local Superbike ace Peter Holzinger on a DS110 kicked some butt, and Canadian SBK Ace Clint McBain did a one-off ride at the grace of MetraKit, to put that bike in the lead in one race, after CRASHING the Metrakit out of first race after he snuck past my bud (riding his TZ125-chassis/80cc YZ engined bike) for the lead in race one... spun out, looped the thing, had the bike lying on top of him (all 140lbs or so) and kicked it off, got back on and kept riding... :D

There were a handful of demo rides available, etc...

maybe some pics when i have a chance...
