Yay, my truck broke!

Rear wheels O---- [____] -----O

Axle seems to have broken, had to have it towed to a repair shop. Gonna have to call them in the morning, they just came off whilst driving (truck's been making funny noises for a few weeks now, tried some fixes here and there but obviously was out of the ballpark), they were just barely attatched, I skidded to a halt. I first tried the brakes but those were out, then I tried downshifting but that was out, then I put on the emergency brake and I just came to a halt. Luckily I was only going 35. This is going to put back my motorcycle many many many months. I'm gonna go take a shower then get to bed. I'll post pictures tomorrow

I'm ok, just... depressed. I took pictures of it in case of insurance or any other reason, I'll post the pics I took tomorrow after work. (Now I wish I already had my motorcycle, I wouldn't have to bum rides off my brother or girlfriend to get to and from work).

I think the same thing kinda happened to a guy I work with...a bolt of some sort let go in the diff and the wheels were about to go out either side....

I'd say you lost a c-clip in the diff, but I'm surprised your diff didn't explode before this if it had pieces floating around in there.

Souns like your bearing are toast, most likely the axles too, ad the brakes will need a good looksie over.

Anyhow, glad your ok. My sis lost a rear wheel when her deranged boyfriend's brother loosened the lugnuts.

ouch. do you have theft insurance? can it be pushed into the bottom of a lake?

Dude that just doesn't "Happen"... Have you been beating on it? Taking it off jumps? Getting any air? attempting to offroad with it? Even if somthing unbolted in the diff (maybe 1% chance of that happening) It's still bolted up through the shafts.

This is all assuming you have a solid axel. If you have independant suspension its even more unlikely. The way that works is that you don't have a centeral solid axel, each wheel is independantly supported by one axel, the two don't effect eachother.

When you hear back from you're shop let us know what they think happened.

That's another thing I don't understand... How could you not down shift?

The only beating that I've done on it was burning out all the time when I first started driving (2 years ago). Never done any jumps that were intentional and never attempted offroading. If I wanted to go offroading or mudding I had my cousin and his truck. It wasn't a solid axle. And also it's easy that I couldn't down shift, the wheels were no longer attatched to the gears.
