Well, If you people would drive 5.7 liter (and up) V8 trucks that get 10mpg like real men, then you wouldn't have these problems would you!?

My Dad's works Renault 5 towed my parents carvan for many years... It was the Diesel Renault 5 though...
Only time it had a problem was touring France with Dads boss... The car just about made it on to the ferry and broke down. One tow up north and a visit to the mechanic later it turns out the rubber band on the clutch had snapped...

They use rubber bands on the clutches over there??
and Tech, you don't need a 5.7 liter to tow stuff, but it is generally a good idea to heed manufacturer's recommended towing weight. It isn't just the engine, but as you can see, the transmission, drivetrain, tires, and frame of the vehicle that are critical to safe towing. Gear ratios make a world of difference as well.
Sure it was funny because they ended up in a ditch like the noobcakes they are, but what if someone was behind them?

It was something to do with the clutch pedl if I am honest...
and I'd just like to point out its a FRENCH car...
