Hey guys,

I've got a problem with my Triumph Tiger (2005 model with 18,600 miles and all prescribed maintenance done by dealer) ....after filling the tank, which means a warm engine turned off for about 5 minutes, the idle is rough and the engine will quit after reving a little to get to the gas station exit. Once I go down the road a few miles, everything is fine, but when I turn it off again and wait about 5 minutes, I get the same rough idle if it will idle at all.

I dropped it off at the dealer a couple days ago....talked to the mechanic yesterday and they don't know what's wrong with it. All the diagnostics indicated everything OK. At least he is getting the same thing.... turn it off for 5, then the rough idle or it quits. He said he was going to call Triumph today and see what they say.

Any ideas?

If it started doing it after filling the tank, it sounds like you got some bad gas. I would drain the tank and put some different gas in it. Bad gas can do strange things sometimes.

i agree with stratus...shere did you get the gas...i've had bad experience with shell gas stations. I woud definitely try that

Has this only been happening on the original tank of gas, or has it continued after subsequent fillups?

Your symptoms are similar to heat related vapor lock issues. When the bike is moving and cooling air is circulating, everything is fine. When you stop the bike, heat just rises off the engine and heats up the bottom of the gas tank, gas lines and carbs. This can cause the fuel in the lines to boil into vapor. That will impede the fuel flow until cooler fuel from the tank fills the line.

This problem is not unusual here in the desert, where it's always hot. In other parts of the country it will only crop up on the hotter summer days.
