82 magna 750 fuel problem

Hi Guys,

One day the bike runs fine without an issue and on other days it runs about 7 to 10 miles, then the number 1 & 2 cylinders run dry of fuel. If I flip the choke lever to half choke the cylinders fire and the bike runs fine for awhile then does the same thing. At times the bike just dies all together like it out of fuel, then after an hour it fires. i didn't drive it home in fear it would stall again stranded. The petcock is on-off type with a fuel pump. Could the fuel pump just be shot or shorting out from heat or should I be looking for something else? Whats wierd is sometimes it runs without a hitch no matter how long I ride.
Thanks!
JR

Thanks for the reply! I hope it's something simple cuz a new pump is 110 bucks. I wonder if a 1970's tank can be adapted to this bike. I don't like where the petcock is any way and I can eliminate the pump all together?? I think it will hold more fuel too?
Off to work I go to see if I can find the problem!

well guess all I can do is ride it till it happens and check for fuel in the float bowl and spark to the cylinders and see what I got. The filter is now new and the pump is pumping fuel.
