I'm looking to buy a 2001 suzuki bandit 1200 with 5k miles in mint condition. Anybody have any opinions on if this is a good bike or not? Thanks

I love my 02 B600, just wish it had a bit more power which the 1200 should deffinitely have. Great all around bike, the seating position is very comfortable, stock seat is pretty comfortable. Has a nice amount of wind protection to if it's the S model.

Good idea! That bike looks so cool and elegant, and it runs really fast.. Bandit 1200 has improved a lot, so in terms of the parts, I guess, its excellent.

Don't forget to have safety gears with you. Happy Motorcycling in advance!

Before you plunk down the cash on that 2001 Bandit 12, Google "Suzuki bandit oil burning"--there are a bunch of comments about the 2001's having an oil burning problem. Dealers were replacing pistons like crazy for a while, and it's worth checking out. The cause for the oil consumption was an increase in the jet size of the coolant oil stream aimed at the pistons. The larger stream overwhelmed the rings and got into the combustion chamber, causing oil burning and smoking. The problem overlapped into 2002 for a few serial numbers too. Personally, I would avoid any bike with a serial # built during the problem period.

As John said the 01's and 02's had oil burning issues.I have just brought an 05 and its a great bike.Although Im not keen on promoting other forums but http://www.maximum-suzuki.com. Is the best Bandit Dedicated website out there so perhaps post your question over there and see waht you get back.
