Screeching coming from rear wheel.

I was out practicing today. I came a stop and went to make a turn but ended up skidding the back tire a bit somehow. Anyway, as i was riding home I noticed there is now I high pitch "squeel" coming from the rear wheel area. This is there whether i'm driving or in neutral. How bad do you think this is?

How bad is this? Unless you smell something burning, problem is likely minor.

It can range anywhere between pads being too hard for the rotors to worn pads. Spray er' down with some brake cleaner and see if it helps. If it doesn't replace them with softer pads.

Note: your pads won't last as long going softer, but it'll quiet them a quite a bit.

Unless the squeal is coming from the wheel bearings. These can be checked when the rear wheel is off.

I wouldn't do a whole lot of riding on that bike until I determined where the squeal is coming from.

I am so frustrated with this thing today. I have no place nearby to take the bike to get checked out, and I have almost nobody that can help me trouble shoot. I way too much of a beginner to be taking stuff apart and even if i could i dont know what to look for. Its not like i live in the sticks either I live in the city.

Dude, your signature makes it seem like your hawking motorcycle manuals. Why don't you crack one open for you bike and see how to do it yourself

If your bike has rear disc brakes, it is really easy to work on. If it is drum brakes, it is a bit harder but still doable for a novice. Especially a novice with a service manual...

LOL - I just have a way to get them, I still dont know anything about bikes. Also the manual I have doesnt go into detail about stuff like this. I'm guessing the service manual is different then the owners manual. Maybe i'll try to track one down.

the first thing I would check is to make sure the axle nut didn't come loose, or maybe the wheel bearings are spinning on the outside, you can tell if its the brakes buy using the brake as ur moving and see if that increases or decreaces, or changes the noise. I use a bent nail instead of a cotter pin to hold my axle nut on.

Prop it on a stand and rev it up and try to locate the noise
