Is the Honda 599 a good starter bike?

Not really. Go to the New Bikers Forum and read the stickies at the top.

I'd say... awsome second bike, maybe look at something a little cheaper for a starter bike.

no Honda Dealer in the state of Pennsylvania has a 599 on stock, every dealer told me they don't sell and nobody wants one. Buy a Yamaha FZ6

They are probably poor sellers because they are priced a bit high, but that's because they are made in Italy, and the Dollar is in the sewer versus the Euro.
And too many people have no problem w/ going into a dlrship for a 600 and being talked into a 1000.

I know of 3 people on the forums who have one.
I've seen 4 or 5 tooling around my small town.
I've had several people tell me they were thinking about buying one when I'm stopped at a biker hang out, then ask me what I thought of mine.
Though demand is not as high compared to the supersports. Because people look at the numbers (hp) as opposed to other things. Personally, I think it's more comfortable, and more fun to ride. But whatever.
I'm certain you could find one if you tried Moto, a dealership will always bring in a bike for you, if you're prepared to buy it. They did for me, all I had to do was ask.

I went into a dealership a few years back to check out the 599 and was surprised to find that the 919 was only $800 more and it had fuel injection. I could see why the 599 wasn't a huge seller. It's a great bike, but I can see how their pricing strategy could affect sales significantly.

I am always looking around for a new bike, looking at every type of bike, and the 599 and 919, nobody has one. I just can't make up my mind what new bike I want and I feel cheated cause I looked at every bike thats made except those two.
