Hello,

I came across an interesting helmet and might be a good first helmet. I saw some threads about it on here, but I haven't done a internet search for others' views on it.

It's the Reevu helmet (www.reevu.com). Apparently it is designed to give a virtual review inside the helment. I don't know if it is DOT approved or even legal in the states. It supposed Shnell approved, but did not says if 2000 or 2005 standard. I wrote them an email and asked it was was legal here, DOT and/or Shnell approved. I also asked if anyone sells in near me; kind of big risk to buy online without ever seeing it.

To me, that and along with the side view mirrors can only help keep one from being a road stain from those rear attacks. Since I'm new, I may not have that getting use it problem as much as the veteran riders.

Just curious what you guys may think about the helmet. Thanks and have a nice day.

Looks like a great idea though.

I got a reply today from Reevu about my questions. Below is the response:

Hi Richard

Please find attached our brochure

Due to the huge demand created here in Europe, we do not have distribution in the USA yet. We are going through the preliminary tests for the DOT and should have the full certification this year hopefully around September. We will then be able to put distribution in place and introduce the helmets into the US market.

They retail for around 400 Euros in Europe, we hope that it will cost no more than $400-450 when it lands in the States, but due to local taxes etc, will not know an exact price.

We have a mailing list to keep you updated of when the helmets are available in your country.

I will keep you posted once I have news.

The attached brochures were available on thier site. I see this is what they gave another person, who posted his response as well.

Yeah, that seemed to be the auto response they sent out to other inquries posted to other forum threads.

Reading reviews, while great idea, it seemed the helmet still faced the issues of sun/light glare when the sun was behind the rider, the field of view was a lot smaller than those of the pics they provide, and finally, the depth of view was a bit decieving.

I imagine it takes a little time to get use to the picture and whatnot.

It might do just as much good to add some small convex type mirrors to the corner of stock ones on the bike.
