i don't have one yet since the only tires i've used are the bridgestone battlax that comes stock w/ the gixxers.

looking at other tires though on the net... the dunlop qualifier's specs looks impressive to me.

what's your favorite tire?

A very good tire I think is the Continental Road Attack. I had a pair, but I don't think they last as long as a touring tire would. They do last longer than a strictly track or racing tire though and they are priced well. All the reports I read say they are a very good sticking tire and from my experiance with them I'd say the are a decent milage tire. I am not highly agressive though. My current set is Avon Azaros, in the hope of getting more miles, but these are also plenty sticky for me. I think they are a harder compound tire, so may not be for the canyon carvers.

How long can one expect tires to last on a cruiser bike ? Are sportbikes actually getting 5,000 miles on tires ? That seems low to me.

5,000 miles? I got just over 5,000kms out of my Avon Viper rear. They are the best handling tyre I have ever used and I have not had a single loose moment in the wet or the dry with them.

I buy any tire Pirelli makes I now have the Pirelli MT66 on my M50 that took away the vibration and these tires grip the road like glue. My last bike was a Suzuki DRZ400S that I run with street legal knobbies, the Pirelli knobbies out-lasted the Dunlop knobbies 3 to 1. I will never buy any Bridgestone tire due to my experiences with the Bridgestone Trailwing tires that were death tires on a wet road. Bridgestone Trailwings are stock on any Suzuki DRZ and V Strom.

My faves are Dunlop F11 Qualifiers (front) and K625 (?) (rear) since they were developed for European weather and so far they hold true.

I plan on Continental MileStones since they have silica on 'em which supposedly makes them sticker even when wet and cold. What sweetens the deal is that I heard they last for a while.

My current favorites are the metzler M1s I have on the bandit. they stick like glue with no squirrliness, and do well in the rain as well.

Hey Verm since you want to get into canyon riding I would recommend replacing your bridgestones when they wear out. I would recommend metzler M3s or M1s, or michelin Pilot Powers. the pirelli corsas are also supposed to be really good.

And expensive and very soft so they only last a few months. A mate bought a new litre 'Blade fitted with the Corsa's and at his 5,000km service he needed a new rear tyre. They are designed for 80% track and 20% road.

I'm working on my second set of Avon Venoms... I don't abuse the rubber on my bike, but even so, that 35,000 kms was a plesant surprise. I know I could of gone in and bought a new set sooner, as my rear lost most of the crown at about 32,000, but most of my driving is in town and I needed to save some bucks and get a mortgage so I could afford another set. We get hosed in Canada on tire prices...
