Return to riding which bike?

I had a bike for a season back in 2000. I haven't ridden since then. My first bike was a '94 Suzuki R4600R. I clocked a good amount of miles on the bike in that season, riding back and forth to the shore all the time. I wrecked the bike in an accident that was no ones fault but my own. I was trying to keep up with a friend of mine at the time who was more experienced and riding a faster bike, GSXR-750. Too fast around a turn during a light rain that had just started and off the road I went. So I sold the bike, graduated college, got married and haven't ridden since. I'd like to get a new bike and was looking for suggestions. I'm more inclined to a sportbike with something more resembling a seat than a piece of foam glued to the frame. I have gone to plenty of dealers and sat on a lot of bikes but it's hard to make a good decision when most won't let you test ride and the bikes are packed into the dealership like sardines. Another question I have is if I do get a full fledged sportbike, will the seats from corbin or sargent be a great improvement from the stock seats? I guess I want the best of both worlds. I checked the specs on my old bike and it was 100hp but a little heavier at probably around 430+ pounds. Here are the specs on my old bike:

I am mainly looking to ride the bike for fun on the weekends and maybe to work once or twice a week 22 miles round trip with some traffic, stop and go, lights etc.

you should take it easy and ride your own pace.



anyway, the stock seats aren't bad. 22 miles round trip is nothing. it's not enough to make your butt hurt.

also, i suggest you take refresher course.

Ive heard good things about the Yamaha R6.... Never riden one myself though.

the new R6 is almost the same price as the gixxer750.

i think it's overpriced.

but if you really like yamaha, im sure it's gonna be worth it.

Those are fairly common bikes that you can find pretty cheap in the classifieds/ebay. Great bikes. you can beat the snot out of em and they just keep going. Course folks on RR's are gonna poke ya and say why are you on a kan-a-tuna. I tell em i can't tuck my wang into my sock all crouched over like that.

P.S. The 750 version actually comes with risers instead of clip-ons for a more standard seating position. If thats what ya want anyway.


Heard nothing but good about the sv-650's either. That looks like the next big zuki seller to me.

Oh and the gs500.. blahhh there are way too many good bikes out there these days. ima shupp now. good luck.

i have, and i didn't like it so i stuck with my vtx which also has a shitload of power, but i still wouldn't recomment it to someone who's looking for a sportbike.

i would like to try the M109R.

it's too big for me though. does it have a really low CoG?
