hi Everyone
1985 Nighthawk 650.
Throttle has been sticking lately and now i the snap seems to have all but dissapeared.
Any thoughts anyone?
Cables? Rerouting of cables ( i did take off the tank and maybe there is a pintch somewhere), bigger probs?

Since you took the tank off recently I'd suspect a pinched cable. Had the return cable break on my '84 NightHawk so I wouldn't rule that out, either.

when was the last time you lubed the throttle cables?

If they haven't been cleaned and lubed in a while, there may be a build up of crud on the cable causing it to bind.

If the problem occurred since the removal of the tank, I'd have to go with the kinked or misrouted cable .

If it was a gradual build-up of resistance over time, the cables just need to be lubed.

I think i will go ahead and take off the tank and inspect how the lines are layed down. Maybe i will notice if there is a kink or snag in the lines somewhere.

I will also take the throttle cables out ( i think there is are both push and a pull cables) and either lube the, w/ oil or look to that lube spray- The question i have w/ this section is
A) Do i take the Both cables off completely or
B) Do i just take off 1 end ( attatched underneith the throttle) and leave the other end attach ( attached the carb?)

Finally, someone also mentioned that i may need to grease my throttle. Anyone heard of that? If so, where does the grease go?

I didn't read the post you refer to, but LUBING the throttle cable is no doubt what he meant. Not with grease but a spray lube (Not WD40}. There is a tool available to do this without removing the cable if you want to go this route. However, with over 30 years of riding both dirt & street, I have never had a need to lube a throttle cable.

Make sure your grip is not riding against the switch housing or a bar end. Do you have any freeplay in the cable. If not, try to adjust the cable to obtain some.

Took off the gas tank, looked at the wires and rerouted my throttle cables.....everythinig works now!
